Once a home-brewer

Bill,
For a period of about 2-3 years I had been making home-brew.
During this time I had made beer using commercially made brew kits.
The beer I produced was OK however every batch I made had
the same citrus-like taste. It semed like I could not avoid this
fruity effect which eventually led me to giving up on the whole
process. I would really like to give it another honest
try. Do you have any advice for someone in my situation? I was
considering an all-grain process however this sounds a little
complicated for a beginner home-brewer.
